What is solar power?

Photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into electricity that you can use in your home or business.

Why use solar power?

Chiefly because it’s affordable and Alberta is one of the best areas for annual available sunlight.

How does a residential PV system work?

1st - the PV absorbs the energy and then It is converted to usable electricity by an Inverter. 2nd - The electricity is either used by your home, stored in your batteries or sent back to the electrical grid to offset your monthly power usage.

How can I know if my home is a good site?

By taking advantage of Sol West Power’s complimentary site assessment. We come to your home or business with Pathfinder equipment to establish the optimally efficient site on your residence and consider the sun’s directional changes throughout the year. This will give any homeowner a detail and confident understanding that their site will work.

How long does installation take?

Generally 1 to 2 days depending on the size of the system.

How soon will the system start to generate power?

As soon as the utility approves the permit and installs a by-directional meter.

What is the lifetime of a system?

Typically systems are expected to last 40 years. Systems that Sol West Power install come with a 25 year warranty.

Will it work all year long?

Yes. Although monthly output varies at all times of the year, you can expect your system to provide you power.

My roof doesn’t have a steep angle, will a solar panel system work for me?

n our solar site assessment we will take into account many factors, including roof angle. With this assessment we can easily and effectively determine the solar power generating potential of your home or business.

Can’t I just install my own system?

No. In Alberta an electrical permit is required to be pulled in order for your system to become activated. Experience and skill will play a large part in how your system will perform. Our specific design equipment and experienced technicians are able to offer customized systems to maximize its efficiency.

Are prices going to continuously drop?

Prices have gotten to a point where they have settled. At this point waiting longer is not going to be worth your while. If there will be any upcoming price drops, they will be very minimal.

Will I have to manually change the angle of my PV cells throughout the year?

For all systems installed on roofs, this would not be required. Some ground based systems may require manual angle change for optimal efficiency throughout the year.

What is the maintenance involved?

Maintenance can vary based upon location. However, if soiling occurs the panels may require cleaning every few years. Sol West Power can handle all of any potential maintenance services.

Hail Damage?

Solar Panels are one of the few products that are guaranteed to survive against hail.

Will my insurance change?

Homeowner’s insurance typically does not change. It is always recommended that you inform your insurance company or agent that you have installed a system.
