Solar Panel Installation Calgary AB

While there are different types of green energy sources, solar power is perhaps the cleanest and most environmentally-friendly. Solar power has been in use for a couple of decades now. However, there has been a massive increase in the trend in the past few years as the usage has spiked immensely. Solar power is used in almost all parts of the world, including, but not limited to, various immensely cold regions.

For most people, the only reason for Calgary’s aversion to solar power is the lack of sunlight. While this seems a reasonable statement as Calgary is thousands of miles north of the equator and is an extremely cold region, it is not true.

Calgary, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRC), receives about five kilowatt hours (kWh) per square meter every day. For those who do not have any idea how great this is, Germany, the world’s leading user of solar energy receives only about 3 kilowatt hours (kWh) per square meter every day. This proves the fact that the amount of sunlight Calgary receives is far greater than that of countries that rely heavily on solar energy.

Solar panels, however, have an efficiency level. The best solar panels and cells available today run at about 16% efficiency. What this implies is that only about 0.8 kWh per square meter could be generated from the 5 kWh per square meter.

So, is that level of energy enough to power an average home? An average house in Calgary home consumes about 20 kWh per day, according to Alberta Energy. Compared to an average German home, which uses less than 10 kWh per day, this is way too much. This means that an average home in Calgary would need somewhere around 25 square meters of solar panels in order to fulfill nearly all of its power needs. This amount of power could be generated by five by five meter square solar panels that could easily be fitted on the roof of a medium sized house in Calgary.

So, is it possible to switch entirely to solar power to fulfill our needs for electricity? Well, the answer to this question depends on a number of factors, including usage. Solar paneling consists of various components, such as heavy-duty wiring and powerful inverters. Also, there is a chance that some houses may be blocked off from the sun.

However, there is no doubt about the fact solar panels work even in places as isolated as Calgary. All it requires is a reliable service provider that can provide you with the highest grade panels and inverters.
